Integrated Regional Resource Plan - Ottawa Area Sub-Region

A new regional planning cycle is underway for the Ottawa Area sub-region. The first cycle of regional planning for the region began in 2010 and was completed in April 2015 with the release of an Integrated Regional Resource Plan (IRRP). The next IRRP for the sub-region is anticipated to be completed in Q2 2019.

This engagement initiative will provide interested parties with an opportunity to offer input for consideration into the development of the IRRP.

Interested parties include but are not limited to:

  • Municipalities including the City of Ottawa which includes the Greenbelt, Kanata, Nepean and Orleans areas
  • Indigenous Communities including the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan and nine other communities, which are represented for the purposes of consultation and engagement by the Algonquins of Ontario Consultation Office
  • Local distribution companies who serve the community including Hydro Ottawa and Hydro One
  • Transmitters
  • Consumers and services providers for the area

All interested parties are invited to participate in this engagement initiative.

Ottawa Area Working Group - A Technical Working Group consisting of the local distribution companies in the region, the local transmitter and the IESO will use this regional planning engagement initiative to consider input that will identify and meet local electricity needs. The Working Group consists of representatives from the LDC in the area – Hydro Ottawa, as well as the transmitter Hydro One Networks Inc., and the IESO.

Additional details on the IESO’s plans to engage communities and interested parties throughout the process can be found in the Draft Engagement Plan. All comments and enquiries on this engagement can be directed to
