What is the Indigenous Community Energy Plan Program?
The Indigenous Community Energy Plan (ICEP) Program supports First Nation and Métis communities and organizations to develop and maintain an updated community energy plan designed to enhance community energy security.
A Community Energy Plan helps to improve energy efficiency and reduce electricity consumption at the community level. It also helps communities consider opportunities for renewable energy solutions, and can promote a greater interest, awareness and understanding about energy planning.
This program includes two areas of focus:
- developing new community energy plans; and
- updating existing community energy plans.
The ICEP replaces the Aboriginal Community Energy Plan (ACEP) Program as of May 1, 2018. Documents related to the new ICEP Program can be found at Program Documents and Resources. For documents related to the ACEP Program, please see ACEP Documents Archive.

Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis and reviewed at specific times throughout the year. See the application process for what you can expect.
2018 ICEP Applications
In order to be considered at the next review committee meeting, interested applicants are reminded that the next ICEP application submission deadline is Thursday, November 8, 11:59pm. Please note the deadline is subject to change. Check the website for updates and additional information.
Who is eligible?
First Nations and Métis Communities and Organizations in the province of Ontario can apply for funding. See the Program Guidelines for more details.
Funding is not provided to individuals. Joint applications for a shared single project may be submitted by two or more eligible applicants.
