Provincial Energy Manager Program Development

The IESO is seeking input from stakeholders on a proposed provincial Energy Manager Program aimed at promoting the availability of energy managers to help support the objectives of the Province's 2015 to 2020 Conservation First Framework.

The IESO has proposed a design that offers support for multi-distributor companies and various market sectors, where needed, to realize energy savings opportunities and to support the development of a culture of conservation in Ontario. This proposed program will complement other energy market initiatives offered by local distribution companies (LDCs).

The goal of this stakeholder engagement initiative is to present an overview of the proposed program and to invite input to identify any challenges or barriers that the IESO should consider in the final design. The proposed program contains two specific areas for stakeholder consideration:

Sector-Based Energy Managers – these energy managers will be procured through an open request for proposal (RFP) process. Energy managers are expected to target an aggregated customer base within a specific market sector to achieve proposed energy savings.

Multi-Distributor Customer Energy Managers – financial support for energy managers will be offered to customers that have a centrally managed energy management function with facilities located in five or more LDC territories.

The Schedule of Activities below outlines when and how input will be sought.

This stakeholder engagement initiative is open to all stakeholders including small business, commercial and institutional customers, as well as customers that have facilities located in five or more LDC territories. Energy management consultants, LDCs and other service providers may also have an interest in this initiative.
